Academic workers should be allowed a protest as long as it is peaceful. Political decisions effect everyone and everything, including academics and their workers.

UC Santa Cruz Academic Workers Strike in Support of Pro-Palestinian Protesters

The administration maintains the strike is unlawful and a violation of the union’s contract with UC, which prohibits work stoppages, said Lori Kletzer, campus provost and executive vice chancellor, in a statement. The University of California also filed an Unfair Labor Practice charge against the union on Friday.

On Monday- UC Santa Cruz graduate workers from the United Auto Workers 4811 joined the Pro-Palestinian strikes. This comes in response to violent acts from mutliple UC Campus Police Departments when engaging with peaceful protesters on campuses.
